The HD Spikers and Cool Smashers both swept their respective groups, the former 4-0 in Pool A and the latter 3-0 in Pool B to advance to the quarter-finals with the crucial two-time advantage .
All eyes should be on Cignal HD, however, who played the game of their lives after sweeping away what everyone considered the band of death with big wins over serious contenders Choco Mucho, F2 Logistics and Chery Tiggo. – the list of titles.
The HD Spikers will be the big favorites in their 3 p.m. showdown with the Purest Water Defenders, who lost all three of their Pool B outings.
But Cignal HD coach Shaq delos Santos stressed there was no room for complacency in the knockout round.
“We have to triple our efforts and we cannot relax in the quarter-finals. If we can do it in one game, that’s better but we expect it to be difficult,” said Delos Santos, whose charges have already improved on their 10and and last place in the Bacarra bubble, Ilocos Norte a year ago.
Creamline will also shoot for the jugular and settle an old score with last season’s conqueror Chery Tiggo in their 6 p.m. clash
The Cool Smashers came one set away from securing the 2021 crown when they went up 2-1 in the deciding third match, but imploded in the final two sets when the Crossovers fought back to snatch the title.
Tots Carlos and Jema Galanza have done the heavy lifting mainly for Creamline in the group stages while skipper Alyssa Valdez seeks form.
Ms. Carlos, in fact, unleashed a 28-run masterpiece while Ms. Galanza busted for 18 hits in a 25-23, 23-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-win. 10 against Petro Gazz on Wednesday.
