Jetstar gives traveler $10 voucher after flight canceled
Outrage as Jetstar passenger receives paltry $10 voucher after flight canceled just TWO HOURS before takeoff
- The passenger receives a $10 coupon when the flight is cancelled, resulting in a six-hour wait
- The refreshment voucher had to be spent at the airport, where the prices are high
- Details were on the “Australia” Reddit board, where users were unimpressed
A Jetstar passenger claims he received a $10 voucher as compensation after the airline canceled the flight less than two hours before takeoff.
The passenger posted a photo of the “refreshment voucher” on social media on Monday.
The cancellation apparently resulted in a six-hour wait for a rescheduled flight, with only the snack voucher to help pass the time.
“Thank you Jetstar for compensating me with a $10 voucher after mentioning that my flight was canceled within 2 hours of departure and putting us on a flight 6 hours later,” the passenger said.
An airline passenger, who claimed he received a $10 voucher to compensate for his last-minute flight cancellation at an Australian airport, has shared details of the miserable compensation
The Jetstar passenger claimed he received a $10 coupon to spend on refreshments while he waited six hours. Jetstar generally offers more compensation than claimed in this case
The illustrated coupon entitled the bearer to refreshments “worth $10” inside the airport.
The passenger said he exchanged it for two rolls of rice paper from the Vietnamese restaurant Roll’d.
A Jetstar spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia that the company’s policy for a six-hour flight delay is generally to provide three meal vouchers per passenger.
Considering the cost of food at the airport, the $10 voucher would not have been enough to purchase a full meal and drink.
The passenger could not use it to buy alcohol.
Reddit users weren’t impressed with Jetstar’s compensation. ‘Woo-hoo, $10!’ wrote one.
“I honestly don’t understand how companies don’t realize how much worse this kind of ‘compensation’ actively is than doing nothing,” Faderjester wrote.
‘S*** happens, most people move on, but receiving something like this is rubbing salt in the wound and pisses you off even more.’
One Reddit poster called the $10 voucher ‘stingy’ while another joked ‘Too bad you can’t use that voucher in the airport parking lot’. You could pay for seven minutes of parking with that.
Another Reddit user joked that the voucher could buy “half a beer”, while another said he could have bought “a babycino”.
The passenger claimed that at some foreign airports, canceling a flight at such short notice may result in further compensation.
“In Europe, you are compensated if your flight is canceled within 3 hours of departure.” they wrote. ‘It was within 2 hours and nothing. It’s just *** bulls.’
Reddit users weren’t impressed with the compensation, with one saying it was worse than doing nothing at all
Another user said the passenger should have asked for more compensation.
“You could even have asked for more vouchers, but you chose one (they can also deny you more, but you have the right to ask),” Ryanbrasher wrote.
Another Reddit user said that when his Qantas flight was delayed, he managed to “shove” $60 worth of vouchers to cover several hours of waiting.
“For canceled flights under the control of the airline, customers have a range of options including a full refund, credit voucher or free transfer to the next available flight – in addition to meal vouchers for customers delayed at the airport which can be used in food outlets,” Jetstar said in a statement.
