When Amitabh Bachchan remembers Waheeda Rehman fainting during a scene in Bali
Amitabh Bachchan had once shared an incident involving Waheeda Rehman which took place during the filming of Reshma Aur Shera. In an old interview, Amitabh told how during an animal sacrifice scene at Jaisalmer Palace, Waheeda fainted. Following this, he, along with Sunil Dutt and a few other people, had to bring her to their “makeshift hotel” and revive her. Reshma Aur Shera (1971), a crime drama film, was directed and produced by Sunil. Apart from Amitabh, Waheeda and Sunil, the film also has Vinod Khanna, Raakhee, Ranjeet, KN Singh, Jayant and Amrish Puri. Reshma Aur Shera was selected as the Indian entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars, but was not accepted. The film won three awards at the National Film Awards.
In an interview with Filmfare in 2018, Amitabh said: “When I had the opportunity to work with Waheeda in Reshma Aur Shera (1971) early in my career, I couldn’t believe my luck. For me, she has always symbolized the ideal Indian woman and in her personal attitude, I found qualities that joined my convictions. A calm, modest and reserved person, she was an image of grace during the filming of the film. The unit spent a lot time in the deserts. from Rajasthan camped in tents at Pochina, a village some distance from Jaisalmer. She and her elder sister Appaji were so endearing and kind to me during the stay that I never I felt like a newcomer, I felt part of their family.
He also said, “I can never forget a moment during the filming of Reshma Aur Shera when we were shooting the animal sacrifice scene at Jaisalmer Palace. The moment when the horrible bali (sacrifice), actually happened produced during Dusshera, she, who was placed in the crowd as part of the stage, collapsed and passed out.Sunil Dutt saab and a few others, including myself, rushed to her side, l ‘lifted her through the crowd, managed to put her in a jeep and drove her back to the makeshift hotel to revive her. I felt so sorry for her, but I felt somehow privileged to be part of the group. who took care of her.
Amitabh and Waheeda acted together in many films such as Adalat and Kabhi Kabhie (1976), Namak Halaal (1982), Coolie and Mahaan (1983). Waheeda had cameo roles in Trishul (1978) and Naseeb (1981). Amitabh made a special appearance in the 2009 film Delhi-6.
Meanwhile, Amitabh will be seen next in Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Nagarjuna and Mouni Roy. it also has Uunchai along with Anupam Kher, Boman Irani and Parineeti Chopra in the pipeline.
